01. (still) Terminally Ambivalent Over You
02. Pret de Toi, Loin de Toi
03.Stand by Your Man

limited stock
includes the video (still) terminally ambivalent over you by Alex Budovsk

“Don’t ever mention ‘commitment’
“Cause I could never say “I do”
But mention you’re leaving
I’ll be non my knees and pleading
I’m terminally ambivalent over you”

This limited edition (aren’t they all?) single includes the fantabulous animated video for (Still) Terminally Ambivalent Over You by Alex Budovsky. Whilst it was Al’s video for “Bathtime in Clerkenwell” that made him an international new-kid-on-the block in the animation world, this is the one that he did first. I got an email out of the blue one day from a Russian guy saying:
“Is it Ok if I make an animation for one of your songs?”.
“Sure” I replied and forgot all about it then three months later this turned up.
We nearly always finish our shows with it.
David Guez did the translation for the French version – I have no idea what that sounds like to a French girl.
We used to play ‘Stand By Your Man” at shows too. US audiences always loved it, Russians not.

This special limited edition book of the album is a song-life-cycle, it references the Bardo Thodol / Tibetan book of the Dead’s description of the passage from the end of one existence to the beginning of another – all set against the backdrop of the imagined city. The old jazz, shellac sounds and samples of previous albums are here joined by an organic electronica.  Most songs are underpinned by a kind of joyful poignancy – even those which appear at first drenched in sadness.  And even when the going gets dark there’s an element of wryness never far from the surface – witness ‘Kix’ : a gentle send up of the Cole Porter standard ‘I Get a Kick out of You’ or the album’s gospel tinged emotional conclusion ‘Bringing the Body Back Home’ when the whole narrative turns back on itself.

Long term collaborators Clive Painter, Jacques Van Rhijn, Jed Woodhouse and Don Brosnan are joined this time by The Puppini Sisters, cult theatre star Aurelia Thierree and Guillotines’ vocalist Joe Coles. The single “Last Words’ is the featured song in upcoming US indie film “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” starring “Juno’s” Michael Serra – to read more information go here.

The book is presented in an exquisite full colour hard back book of extraordinary artwork of illustrator Catherine Anyango telling its story in a sequence of collaged tableaux together with texts by The Clerkenwell Kid and ‘I Lucifer’ author Glen Duncan.

Seasons Dreamings 2012

The annual The Real Tuesday Weld Audio Christmas card has arrived at Antique Beat’s pop-up Christmas shop somewhere in Clerkenwell. And it looks beautiful. And it is long. And there are two versions: Blue Wolf City and Red Wolf Country.

As ever, it contains new or unreleased music from the past year. The crazy gypsy elector-swing foot tapper “Spring Heeled Jane” features the most stylish DJ duo in the world The Broken Hearts. Josephine Lloyd and the band perform a heart-stopping version of “Torched Song” (originally written for the LA Noire soundtrack) whilst a demo version of a new song “Black Bird Day” (soon to appear on Arctic Circle’s forthcoming incredible Age of Not Believing project) brings a haunting fairytale atmosphere to the proceedings. “Snowball” and “Last Light” bookend the mini-album with crackly old meets new sounds suitably coloured to the winter season (well, if you are in the Northern hemisphere that is).

The Real Tuesday Weld – Radio Clerkenwell Paris DJs Mix

The Real Tuesday Weld were formed by Stephen Coates in 1999 inspired by dreams of crooner Al Bowlly and the American actress Tuesday Weld. They’re influenced by 1930s jazz, Serge Gainsbourg, Ennio Morricone and minimalist electronica and are known for a series of critically acclaimed albums, arts projects and award winning collaborations with film makers. We started spotting them on Paris DJs way back in 2005… and fast forward to 2012 we were glad to be able to interview Stephen last week (read it in english or in french), and managed to get a mix from him cooked especialy for Paris DJs. The Real Tuesday Weld has a new album out, Songs For The Last Werewolf, and Stephen Coates has also a new project and album out, Lazarus and The Plane Crash. We love his neo-retro 1930s/film noir soundtrack/Beatles vibe spiked with English humor, and can’t wait to see the band on stage very soon: February 13th at the Comedy Club and february 15th at the Café de La Danse, both in Paris!
